MEMBERS - NACSA

The National Association of Chinese Shipowners was established in the year of 1947. Current members of NACS include 80 shipping companies which operate about 240 ocean-going vessels, accounting for 6,306,743 DWT. For more than 60 years, NACS has been working hard to cooperate with international maritime institutions and to facilitate the development of shipping industry in Taiwan.

On 15th December 2008, Taiwan and China reached an agreement to lift the ban on cross-strait transportation since 1949. The resumption of direct shipping link indicates reconciliation between the two sides and is expected to boost bilateral trade and economic exchanges in this region. NACS has played an essential part in decades of cross-strait negotiations to achieve this historical breakthrough.

We are proud to be a member of Asian Shipowners’ Association. Together the ASA membership controls about 50% of global merchant fleet and proves to be one of the most important shipping organizations in the world. Since its establishment in 1992, the annual forum has provided an informative platform for the industry to identify problems, to share viewpoints, and to overcome the challenges.

Today the shipping industry is still in the depth of market recession. Apart from the impact of global financial storm, constant delivery of newbuildings threatens to worsen the gap of market demand and supply. Faced with such unrelenting challenges, we hope ASA can strengthen the communication among industrial members. By working together, we believe that there will be a greater chance to restore market order and to deliver better service to our customers.
