New BIMCO/ICS 海员劳动力报告 warns of serious potential officer shortage

The good news is that in the past five years the industry has made good progress in reducing officer turnover rates from 8% to 6%, retaining qualified seafarers and increasing the number of years that they serve at sea. 事实上, compared with estimates from the 2015 report, the average age of officers serving at Management Level and Operational Level has increased.

We must analyse and respond to trends in seafarer retention, and continue regular monitoring of the global seafarer workforce, to ensure that the supply of STCW certified seafarers continued to keep pace with demand.”

The Report also focuses on diversity within the seafarer workforce, analysing a range of demographic data, 包括年龄, 国籍和性别. Female officer numbers are spread more evenly across the sectors.
