ICS comment on European Commission decision not to renew Consortia Block Exemption for liner shipping.

Following the announcement on 10 October 2023 by the European Commission (DG COMP) that it intends to let the sector-specific Consortia Block Exemption Regulation for liner shipping expire in April 2024, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), which is the global trade association for shipowners and ship operators in all sectors and trades, made the following comment.

ICS launches CII Data Collection System

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) launches its Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) Data Collection System today. The purpose of the ICS CII Data Collection System is to support the International Maritime Organization during the formal review of the CII rating system, due to be completed by 1 January 2026. ICS invites shipowners and relevant stakeholders to utilise the ICS Data Collection System to contribute to a fair and successful CII rating system in the future.

The International Chamber of Shipping opens new Representative Office in Shanghai

Marked at a special ceremony today at the North Bund Forum, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the global trade association for shipowners, has opened a new Representative office in Shanghai. ICS recognises great importance of Chinese shipping industry and looks forward to continuing collaboration with China Shipowners’ Association which is now a Full ICS Member. New ICS office is located in the North Bund area of Hongkou District, Shanghai, a prominent global shipping hub.

UAE MOEI and the International Chamber of Shipping unveil plans for COP28

The shipping industry will come together with ministers at COP28 for a series of events and the annual Shaping the Future of Shipping summit. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOIE) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) unveil COP28 plans following high-profile meeting in July to launch the CEM Hubs initiative. Summit to be held under the patronage of His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, United Arab Emirates’ Minister for Energy and Infrastructure on 10 December 2023.

ICS membership continues to grow with the Association of Panamanian Shipowners joining

• The Association of Panamanian Shipowners (ARPA) has become an associate member of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS). • Launched in 2020, ARPA’s main objective is to bring together Panamanian shipowners and strengthen Panama’s shipping industry. • This membership will enhance relationships across the maritime sector as the industry continues to work together to find solutions to collective issues.

New initiative to scale low-carbon fuel production adopted by ministers at global energy summit

Energy value chain leaders sound alarm on lack of necessary infrastructure and cross-sectoral alignment to move low-carbon fuels as global demand increases. The Clean Energy Marine Hubs (CEM-Hubs) initiative was established by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) less than a year after it was first presented at an unprecedented speed for the global body. The cross-sectoral and public-private partnership aims to scale the global low-carbon fuels value chain to ensure transportation infrastructure is in place to link producers and consumers of zero emission fuels across the world.
